This section contains a variety of South African Game, all sourced under CITES - The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. All import, export, re-export and introduction from the sea, of species covered by the Convention, has to be authorized through a licensing system.
All the meats featured on this site come through meat plants which are certified by the EU food standard agency under licence to be acceptable in Welfare, Hygiene and Conservation, and are sourced under CITES. We have recently been forced to increase our prices on these products - importantly, what you see is what you get with these steaks as there is no fat to trim or shrinkage during the cooking process.

The Kudu is known for its spectacular long spiral horns and its name is derived from the Hottentot name "koodoo". These antelope browse on a very wide range of plants including a variety of leaves, herbs, fruits, vines and flowers. The meat is coarse grained and dark red in colour.

This meat is fine grained and has a wonderful herby flavour gained from the tiny leaves of the Karoo shrubs, giving the meat a very fresh smell. The name "springbok" comes from the Dutch words "spring" (jump) and "bok" (buck).

These are Burchell's Zebra, bred on the plains as opposed to the Cape Mountain Zebra. They prefer short grass areas, forming huge herds during seasonal migration.

The wildebeest, so named by Dutch settlers which means wild beast, is also known as a gnu and is a large antelope.
The animals migrate in herds of more than 1 million in May, where they feed in open woodlands until November, then return to the Serengeti.

These antelope browse on a very wide range of plants including a variety of leaves, herbs, fruits, vines and flowers. They dislike wooded areas, preferring to range the plains. The meat is coarse grained and dark red in colour, and very similar to Kudu and Impala in texture and taste.
