The Kudu is known for its spectacular long spiral horns and its name is derived from the Hottentot name "koodoo". These antelope browse on a very wide range of plants including a variety of leaves, herbs, fruits, vines and flowers. The meat is coarse grained and dark red in colour.

This meat is fine grained and has a wonderful herby flavour gained from the tiny leaves of the Karoo shrubs, giving the meat a very fresh smell. The name "springbok" comes from the Dutch words "spring" (jump) and "bok" (buck).
